In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair that featured a modular home built by the U.S. Plywood Association termed the “American Home of the Immediate Future”, mothernaturenetwork says Habitat for Humanity is constructing a 1,400 square foot modular home incorporating the newest in green technology for “The next 50.” Utilizing energy-efficient methods and recyclable materials, the four-bedroom two bath house will feature net-zero energy capable solar panels, high levels of insulation, prefabricated panelized walls, radiant floor heating, and a rainwater harvesting system. The electrical and plumbing systems and the HVAC were pre-assembled by modular builder Method Homes, allowing for Habitat volunteers to complete the less-skilled assembly. Completion of “House of the Immediate Future” is expected by the end of August 2012. As MHProNews reported last fall, the original 1962 house is now a private residence on Mercer Island.
