From Ottawa MHProNews.com has learned John Duncan, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development issued a statement today saying the Canadian Government has prioritized the urgent health and safety needs of Attawapiskat residents ensuring access to safe and warm shelter for the coming months. Attawapiskat is located in Northern Ontario. Some residents are living in tents and facing harsh winter conditions. Fifteen modular homes have been purchased and will be delivered as soon as roads are open, likely in January. In addition, Duncan said funding has been provided to renovate five homes and officials are working with Emergency Management Ontario and other partners to deliver necessities to the residents like composting toilets, high efficiency wood stoves, and building materials.
