Equity Lifestyle Properties made headlines this week in a two year old case involving a former employee, apparently fired for working during her lunch break. MHProNews.com learns about the incident from Good Morning America. According to the article, receptionist Sharon Smiley was dismissed two years ago for skipping lunch. Recently an appeals court in Illinois found that denial of her unemployment benefits was “clearly erroneous.” The article also says not following the 30 minute lunch break policy is a violation of Illinois’ labor laws. The report indicates the benefits were initially denied because Smiley had been discharged for misconduct.
