8,601 New HUD Code Homes Shipped in May
In May 2019, new manufactured home shipments were essentially flat with a modest decrease of 1.9% to 8,601 homes as compared to the 8,769 homes shipped in May 2018. Total shipments for May 2019 were 615 homes more than the prior month of April. Compared with May 2018, shipments of single-section homes are down by 1.6% and multi-section homes are down by 2.2%. Total floors shipped in May 2019 decreased 2.1% to 13,318 compared to May 2018.
Of the 8,601 homes shipped in May, there were no homes designated as FEMA units shipped which is the same as May 2018.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 95,151 in May, up 1.9% from the adjusted rate of 93,411 in April. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
In May, 136 plants representing 34 corporations reported production data which is the same as April 2019…

Compare that MHI data to MHARR’s for May, from the MHProNews report linked here, and summarized in their graphic below. There are differences in details and presentation, but the core data for HUD Code manufactured home production/shipments are similar.
That said, now note that MHI’s May 2019 own data contradicts a graphic found on the home page of MHI’s home page. So too does information from Cavco Industries (CVCO), yet Cavco said they relied on MHI for their data.
Why is MHARR consistent, and MHI often self-contradictory?
Why does MHARR want their reports widely shared, while MHI wants to control their content and keep it from others – to avoid fact checks? These are not just oddities. These details are revealing.
