Let’s thank God for the courage of those first settlers who crossed an ocean at great risk in rather flimsy ships by modern standards.
Let’s thank the Creator of all things visible and invisible for both those natives who already lived here in the Americas, as well as for those settlers who came. Each are part of our common heritage as nations, societies, and peoples.
Our friends, colleagues, families, and followers include Jews and Muslims who live and work side-by-side in harmony. It is institutions – including, but not limited to governments, religious, businesses and sometimes manipulated media – that keeps people separated by propaganda and agendas. That vexing reality makes it necessary for all people of good will to be willing to discern what is true from what is fictional.
America’s Thanksgiving has as its origins the blending of cultural and religious backgrounds. Those people knew that if you didn’t work, you wouldn’t eat.
Prager U has created several videos that MHProNews has reviewed that have some debatable elements to them. Of course. They are humans. They are not perfect. The same holds true for us. So we all need to have the wisdom and humility that those first pilgrims and natives had. They early colonists as well as those natives alike knew first-hand the practical meaning of separating wheat from chaff.
That said, Prager has crossed religious, political, economic, and social divides to establish quality videos that inform based upon evidence. They use experts and authors in their respective fields to produce their ‘five minute’ videos. In an era of misleading information, they are routinely trustworthy, and we are thankful for their work. Just bear in mind that every narrative leaves out more than it puts in.
Their video below includes this brief explanation: “Was America once socialist? Surprisingly, yes. There are voices and sources on the left-center-right spectrum that speak some level of truth. We strive on MHProNews and MHLivingNews to be mindful of that reality. We source from all sides.
Before humans walked this globe, there was an earth along with other planets, stars, solar systems and galaxies. Where did they come from? Some Big Bang? Perhaps. But where did the matter for the big bang come from?
Moreover, anyone who has witnessed an explosion knows that “bangs” create destruction, not order. Our planet has a natural law – order – that predates human history.
Order and natural law are the function of a lawgiver and some intelligence that creates and maintains order.
We need look no further than the closest mirror or smartphone that can show us our own face to realize that our bodies are incredibly complex. Minds more adept at calculating than mine discerned that the odds of a human body evolving from mere chaos is some 10 to the 28th power. That’s 10 followed by 28 zeros, which makes winning the lottery look easy by comparison. It requires far more faith to disbelieve in a Creator of all things than it does to believe that an all wise, loving, and powerful Creator established the universe and all that is in it.
That Creator gave us free will, which is what explains the presence of good and evil in the world. People can choose to do right or wrong. Most of us do some of each. Thus, once more, the principle of separating the wheat from the chaff is prudent.
As the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures say, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. There is design to our bodies and to the universe. Design doesn’t happen by chance.
America isn’t perfect. It never has been. It never will be. That’s not negative, that’s reality. Our own families ancestors came from Europe and Iran, the later is the home of the ancient and impressive Persian culture. However impressive, there is no nation, no people that are perfect. That’s a historic fact. So one ought to sift out the wheat from the chaff to find what is good, true, and worth keeping.
Ours is a fine industry that like other professions has its problems. I’m grateful to be in a nation where our God-given rights are protected by a constitution that makes writing articles like this possible. We are happy to shine a light on the good as well as the problematic. There has long been a struggle between good and evil. We are all involved in that, like it or not. That’s transparent.
We are giving thanks here today to God.
