Following up on a story we posted June 5, 2012, ctbulletin reports the Milford, Connecticut Planning and Zoning board delayed a vote regarding Garden Homes Management proposal for a 36-unit affordable housing project near Ryder Woods Mobile Home Park, and another MHC currently under construction. A Ryder Woods resident insists there is mercury contamination that will become worse with the new development. In 2005 three former florescent light bulb manufacturers were ordered to clean up mercury contamination at the site and pay an $857,000 fine. Garden Homes brought several speakers to the meeting, including an environmental consultant who said mercury levels were below the maximum allowed by state law.The city’s health department will review tests conduced at the site.
