The impact on industry events in 2020 that have occurred as a result of the Wuhan China Coronavirus pandemic that has swept America and some 188 nations around the world are routinely reported by various state associations and/or the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).
But two big industry related events merit additional insights.
HUD tells MHProNews that the Innovative Housing Showcase was cancelled for 2020 and was reset for 2021.
“Update: Due to the coronavirus outbreak, IHS has been postponed to 2021. Stay tuned for updates about the next Innovative Housing Showcase,” said HUD’s simple announcement.
To learn more about the 2019 Innovative Housing Showcase (IHS), see the reports linked above and below.
IHS has potential for the industry, but for whatever reason, the videos and promos that MHI has produced have been mainly shared with the industry, rather than being robustly promoted to the general public. More on that issue another time.
The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR), provided the other significant event update.
MAJOR MANUFACTURED HOUSING SHOW CHANGES VENUES
The sponsors of the annual South Central manufactured housing show have announced that the show, in 2021, will move to a new venue, in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Long a fixture in Tunica, Mississippi, the 2020 South Central show was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. While still a major industry event, the show has faced logistical challenges in recent years due to the closure of various venue hotels and related spaces in Tunica.
According to a joint announcement by the Mississippi Manufactured Housing Association and the Alabama Manufactured Housing Association, the 2021 South Central show will take place at the IP Casino and Hotel in Biloxi, from March 15-18, 2021, with additional details expected soon.
The annual South Central show is a well-established manufactured housing industry trade show and exposition, which has been supported and patronized with excellent results by smaller businesses in both the industry’s production and post-production sectors. Industry members, therefore, should mark their calendars and plan to participate-in and/or attend this important industry event.
MHARR is a Washington, D.C.-based national trade association representing the views and
interests of independent producers of federally-regulated manufactured housing.

The industry’s handling of such events, while they offer potential and some results, is arguably being underutilized. More on that in a future report, but additional insights on that and other industry related issues are found from the linked reports.
On a final ‘event’ related noted, President Donald J. Trump is making yet another visit to the Villages, one of the largest manufactured home, land-lease communities in the nation. The Villages includes conventional housing as well as factory-built homes.
While Democrats made several campaign stops at land-lease communities during the primaries, once the Biden campaign locked up the nomination there is no known engagement with the manufactured housing community by either the former Obama-era vice president or by his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris (CA-D).
