Manufactured Housing Industry Production Increases Slightly in November 2020
Washington, D.C., January 4, 2021 – The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) reports that according to official statistics compiled on behalf of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), HUD Code manufactured housing industry year-over-year production rose slightly in November 2020. Just-released statistics indicate that HUD Code manufacturers produced 7,996 homes in November 2020, a .3% increase from the 7,972 new HUD Code homes produced during November 2019. Cumulative 2020 production at the end of November 2020, now stands at 86,757 homes, as compared with 87,884 homes produced over the same period in 2019, a decline of 1.2%.
A further analysis of the official industry statistics shows that the top ten shipment states from the beginning of the industry production rebound in August 2011 through November 2020 — with cumulative, monthly, current year (2020) and prior year (2019) shipments per category as indicated — are:

The move by Mississippi in the top 10 list should draw attention to the report from last year, linked below. How could MS move up, while Cavco claims it was unable to get the Lexington production center acquisition to work? Can anyone at Cavco Industries (CVCO) spell that their claim smells of BS?
The topics linked below were the most read by manufactured housing industry professionals in 2020.
Even a casual review of the hottest topics reflects a realization of evidence-based allegations that manufactured housing has been subverted from within, or as elected officials on either side of the left-right divide have alleged, “the system is rigged.” A similar case can be made for undermining other aspects of the American Republic. That recognition continues to grow among industry professionals as well as affordable housing advocates.
Industry professionals don’t necessarily read MHProNews reports because they like what they read here, because we are not cheering what the ‘powers that be’ want to sell us on. Rather, professionals read our reports in often record numbers because they see reports here based upon evidence and reason that stand up to close scrutiny. Indeed, MHProNews has invited those who have allegedly subverted or failed to defend the industry to discuss or debate these issues publicly. They repeatedly decline doing so.
Since the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) announced its now disproven claim of “momentum” in later part of 2018, the production and shipment levels in our industry have been in 2 year over year declines. By contrast, conventional housing is surging. NAR and NAHB reported ‘drops’ not because of lack of demand, but because of a lack of supply. That should point to an opening for manufactured housing. So, what explains the overall rise by other big ticket housing professions and the slide by manufactured housing?
The RV industry has also surged post-pandemic.
The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) has placed industry production statistics behind a pay-wall.
The MHARR and certain state associations – including MHI – joined forces to pass the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000. So, why doesn’t MHI use that law to its full extent? Or why doesn’t MHI work to properly apply the Duty to Serve Manufactured Housing?
Who benefits from this? The evidence suggests a relatively few companies that are busy consolidating the industry at discounted valuations. If that sounds conspiratorial, one need not look beyond what Kevin Clayton and others said about the Castle and Moat technique. It is arguably the truth hiding in plain sight, so long as someone knows where to look for the truth.
Other leaders at MHI has made comments that tend to confirm what Kevin Clayton said.
MHARR has publicly called out MHI’s failures for years. The logic behind their case shown below make as much or more sense today than when it was first published.
Manufactured housing is a great industry that has been artificially kept smaller than it should be. The evidence for that comes from third party research, such as is linked below.
During an affordable housing crisis, when good federal laws exist that could cause manufactured housing to soar, the troubling reality that “the system is rigged” in manufactured housing should be alarming.
The issues facing America and our industry are both pragmatic but also moral concerns. “If those claiming the name progressive are allowed to have their way, we won’t even recognize this nation in a very short time,” said the Reverend Franklin Graham via Twitter.
“It Would Be an Irreparable Disaster if Joe Biden – Were Designated President of the United States” – said Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò in a recent interview with Steve Bannon. Viganò, the former papal nuncio to the U.S. during the Obama-Biden Administration, is not just a prelate, he was a diplomat with access to the type of intelligence that are not normally available to everyday citizens. His comments merit scrutiny and weight. But more, they are a call to action.
The will of the people must be heard. Then, pass it onto others.
It is an open question if this can be fixed in the absence of fixing the swamp in Washington, D.C. See the linked reports above and below to learn more.
Unless lawmakers feel the heat, they are unlikely to see the light. Reportedly millions of messages have already been sent, but more are obviously needed.
Be the next to make lawmakers feel the heat so they see the light. Otherwise, independents in our industry and others could face the bleak future of what wanna-be former Obama-era VP Joe Biden has without a sense of irony or hypocrisy called a “dark winter.”
