times-standard reports from the northern coast of California Sandpiper Mobile Home Park is in its final stages of rebuilding after being purchased in 2006 by nonprofit Resident Owned Parks (ROP), which will offer homes for low income people to buy in Arcata, CA with the eventual goal of residents owning the MHC as a co-op. ROP ran into numerous delays while seeking permission for the project from the California Coastal Commission, and residents relocated to Arcata Mobile Home Park (another ROP property) during the rebuilding process, and will begin moving back to Sandpiper Oct. 1. As part of the city’s ongoing first-time homebuyer program that helps low-income people get affordable mortgages on homes, Arcata loaned ROP $2.3 million from its housing fund to purchase 16 manufactured homes and build an apartment building. MHProNews has learned new homes will cost $59,900 plus utilities and site rent, and qualified applicants can be on the path to homeownership for $550 a month.
