As follow-up to an article we published Aug. 2, 2012, KTBS reports the Jefferson, Texas City Council continued to discuss a proposed ordinance that would ban manufactured housing from certain historic districts of the city. The hour-long discussion, intended to resolve the issue, raised more questions than answers, as a dozen of the over 300 signers of the petition to amend the ordinance attended the meeting. Machelle Rushing, who helped gather the signatures, said, “Downtown is pretty, but we got the other side that can’t afford downtown so we’re just asking for what we can afford.” Council members agreed to seek a compromise and perhaps alter the boundaries of the siting of manufactured homes as long as certain standards are maintained. The city council will discuss the ordinance again at its next meeting. As MHProNews knows, Texas is the destination of more new manufactured housing than any other state.
