Commissioners in Mooresville, North Carolina, just north of Charlotte, seeking to reduce the number of “non-conforming” manufactured homes in town, passed an ordinance preventing the replacement siting of manufactured housing in areas not specifically zoned for MH. If the owner wants to upgrade or just replace an existing home, it will not be allowed in those districts. The new measure exempts MHCs, districts labeled R2 (residential) and RMX-MH (residential mixed use with manufactured housing) from the revised ordinance. Statesville Record & Landmark tells MHProNews Commissioner Mac Herring says, “We need to help folks who need to replace their existing mobile homes (sic) by working with Habitat (for Humanity) and other community housing projects for cost-effective, more permanent homes.”
