Before pivoting to a White House whistleblower, some background is useful. It is usually a mistake to universally condemn every member of a political party. Why? Because there will be a certain number who do not fit the prevailing narrative of the critics of a party, be it Democrat, Republican or most any other. Additionally, people can and do change, both for the better or for the worse. That is the nature of human free will operating in a nominally free, though imperfect, society. That noted, given that good and evil coexist in the world and in our nation, whistleblowers, tipsters, and informants can play a key role in reform. As more Americans realize that various news sources are often weaponized and agenda-driven, it is also useful to bear in mind that public officials as well as media do not always respond to the initial outreach by a whistleblower. The reasons for that are numerous and will be considered in Part 2 of today’s report. Part 2 will also draw parallels and lessons for manufactured housing in this emerging episode of claims by a White House stenographer who is persistently seeking to expose the Bidens of purportedly “criminal” activity that the tipster claims to have “evidence” proving his claim.

Former White House stenographer blows whistle on Bidens

‘He’s a criminal and I’ve got the evidence’

A former stenographer who worked for the Obama administration said Wednesday that then-Vice President Joe Biden “knew” his son Hunter was on the board of directors for Burisma, a Ukrainian natural gas company, while embarking on a trip to the country in an effort to bolster its natural gas industry.

“What happened on that trip was, Joe Biden was in the front of the plane. My job as the White House stenographer was to be in the back of the plane in the press cabin and if Joe or a senior administration official came back and did a briefing, then I would record it and make a transcript. Well, that’s exactly what happened,” Mike McCormick told Fox News host Jesse Watters. “That senior administration official was Jake Sullivan who is now our national security adviser. So, I didn’t see anything wrong with it at the time.”

Hunter Biden was appointed to the board of Burisma in 2014, stepping down in 2019 when his father launched his 2020 presidential campaign. Biden boasted of getting a prosecutor investigating allegations of the corruption within the company fired during a 2018 appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations.

McCormick said that he witnessed now-National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, explaining to members of the press on the trip how the United States would assist Ukraine in developing its natural gas industry, according to the New York Post.

“Years go by, I’ve left the White House. I’m writing books. And I get ahold of the Hunter Biden laptop from Marco Polo. They are a nonprofit, anticorruption nonprofit. About a year and a half ago I started writing a Substack based on what I find. Then I go back over what I knew happened when I was working for Joe,” McCormick continued.

“I found the transcript that I wrote about that briefing,” McCormick said. “That’s when Jake Sullivan starts talking about fracking and because of what I had read in a laptop and reported in my Substack previously, I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, Joe Biden knew Hunter Biden was already on the board on April 18th. Joe Biden knew. He directed Sullivan to go back and talk to the press.’

The Washington Post and New York Times confirmed the laptop and its contents were authentic in March 2022 reports discussing an IRS investigation into Hunter Biden’s financial dealings.

“This is a conspiracy. This is a crime. This is public corruption. That’s what the FBI is supposed to investigate,” McCormick said.

“That’s the bottom line. I don’t care if he goes to Timbuktu or Ireland or anywhere, he’s a criminal and I’ve got the evidence,” McCormick added.

Part II Additional Information with More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary in Brief

Corruption in U.S. politics is hardly new, as the reference below to the Tammany Hall era of U.S. history recalls. As another example, the influence of organized crime in the U.S. has waxed and waned. The influence of “robber barons” of whatever era, past or present, has similarly increased or decreased at various times in our nation’s history. It often takes whistleblowers and tipsters – persistent and committed souls who want to effect positive change – to expose and ultimately root out corruption. Time will tell how effective McCormick’s efforts will be. But if Joe Biden is ever charged with a crime, or impeached (unlikely without a major shift in public opinion) for evidence of corruption, it will be people like McCormick or Tony Bobulinski who history will recall.

That theme of whistleblowing, and why it matters at the federal, state, local or at the manufactured housing industry level will be examined shortly.

But first, a segue that will hopefully prove useful.

The time-tested principle of separating the wheat from the chaff is arguably essential in our era, and perhaps all others too. Then House Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC-D) aptly stressed the importance of history. When history is properly understood, Clyburn explained it helps us understand how we go to where we are. History can also shed parallel insights that are useful in the process of correcting wrongs. Because “anything that has happened before can happen again,” said former history instructor Clyburn.

There are those who believe we may be living in the most corrupt era ever in American history. Be that as it may, it is useful to understand that American history has numerous examples of corruption, such as New York City in the Tammany Hall era.  ‘Tammany Hall’ was notoriously known for cronyism and corruption.

 

That is a dark chapter for the Democratic Party in U.S. history, but not the only one. That mentioned, it is useful to pivot to a time some believe is one of the brightest chapters of Democratic Party history. That would be the so-called ‘Camelot’ era while President John F. “Jack” Kennedy was the President of the United States (POTUS). While Kennedy was known to have a weakness for chasing women and infidelity, there is evidence that suggests that he cared deeply for advancing the ideals upon which the USA was founded. He worked for civil rights for minorities. Unlike some Democrats who seem to embrace Marxist or Socialist doctrines, Kennedy was more in the anti-communist camp. During the Kennedy era, several historical accounts point out that he and his brother Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy (Jack’s brother and his attorney general) use of ‘back channels’ in dealing with communist or other regimes. The reason to use back channels was because the Kennedys didn’t fully trust either the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), nor did the later assassinated president fully trust ‘his’ U.S. State Department.

Generally less known about President Jack Kennedy is his interest in economics and the U.S. financial system. Well before President Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts, President Kennedy enacted tax reforms, which lowered the income tax rate.

In a campaign speech while Kennedy was still a U.S. Senator, he said: “we pledge ourselves to maintain the current value of the dollar. If elected President I shall not devalue the dollar from the present rate. Rather I shall defend the present value and its soundness.

Secondly, we will begin immediate and vigorous negotiations to remove artificial barriers to the flow of American goods overseas, as well as restrictions on the flow of foreign capital to this country. We will ask our allies to share the increasing burden of building the military and economic strength of the free world.”

In that same speech, over 62 years ago, Kennedy said: “Not only has inflation kept us out of markets abroad, it has priced us out of markets here at home. For example, as the result of the near doubling of steel prices in the last decade, the United States – a nation with the largest steel-producing capacity in the world – has imported substantial quantities of steel and steel products. For it is, in many cases, cheaper to buy steel overseas and ship it here than to buy it from domestic producers.”

Some readers here recall that era from our childhood or teenage years. But millions of our fellow citizens grew up in an increasingly post-industrial America. Kennedy campaigned on the notion of protecting domestic industries and attracting capital from other countries to invest in the U.S.A.

Fast-forward from Kennedy to POTUS Richard M. Nixon (R), who is widely, if not entirely fairly, remembered for the Watergate scandal. Nixon won almost every state during his re-election campaign in 1972. According to left-leaning Wikipedia, are the following insights.

The U.S was wracked by protests over the Vietnam conflict in 1968 and the years since. Communists and their sympathizers were agitating in the U.S. The civil rights movement was still an issue, thought the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts had already been enacted. While Nixon ‘ended’ the conflict in Vietnam, it was messy. During the Nixon Administration, he and his presidential advisor, who also served as secretary of state, Henry Kissinger, began the process that ended up making Communist China the chief rival today in trade, economics, and U.S. foreign policy. By opening up ‘trade with China,’ and the U.S. later giving that nation most favored nation trade status, a process began that – as noted – resulted in China becoming the economic powerhouse that it is today. That’s not communist economic success, it is more like Nazi German fascism. It is quite in keeping with the remarks by some communist leaders that the West (capitalist) nations would sell the communists the rope that they would use to hang the capitalists with.

It is likely that most readers never learned that brief history in the paragraph above during their elementary through high school years. What some have learned about American history is often inadequate at best, and at times a weaponized account for various agenda-driven purposes at worst.

The point in mentioning Kennedy and Nixon is to say that the principle of separating the wheat from the chaff is essential for grasping what was good or bad about a person or political party at a given time. The Democratic Party was the pro-slavery party in the run-up to the American Civil War. Republican Abraham Lincoln fought to keep the Union together and still managed to end the practice of slavery. It was a Democrat, John Wilkes Booth, who killed Lincoln. The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was a democratic terror group. Former Black Democrat Carol Swain, Professor of Political Science at Vanderbilt University, explains much of that history in these two short videos.

 

 

 

Such historical facts are useful for people to operate in a world with their eyes wide opened instead of shut and blinded by beliefs that may represent subtle traps and problematic habits. Neither major political party has ever been ideal or perfect. Each have better and worse epochs. Each have had good planks and problematic ones. For example. For a time, Democrats were opposed to the ‘free trade’ that Republicans championed that caused U.S. factories and investments to move overseas.

Some weaponize U.S. history to make it seem like everything that happened in this country was terrible. Not so. But neither was U.S. history all peaches and cream. There has always been a struggle between good and evil. There have long been better or worse politicians.

The Republican Party today is not the same as it was even twenty years ago during the presidency of George W. Bush. Bush was a wealthy ‘establishment’ man. In terms of manufactured housing, Bush’s HUD Secretary Mel Martinez failed to properly enforce the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000 (MHIA) “enhanced preemption” provision. One of the reasons manufactured housing is underperforming today could fairly be considered to have started during the Bush 43 White House era. But it isn’t that one thing that caused the industry’s decline, rather, it is a tapestry of factors that include zoning and finance.

 

Those reports and links make it clear that some provide their research out in the open, under their own name. Others may opt to do so anonymously.

 

It is useful to consider the claims of a critic(s). Do criticisms hold up to scrutiny and fact checks? Or are they the result of an elaborate smokescreen?

It is useful to examine the claims of supporters too. Similar tests need to be applied. Is someone a supporter only because of what amounts to financial or ‘prestige’ payoffs? Is it rewards, or the hope for payoffs, that keep someone in a person’s or organization’s camp? Following the money trail, following the incentives given, and following the history of a person or group is useful in discerning the truth.

It has frankly been costly for the parent company of our publications (MHProNews/MHLivingNews) to expose the evidence of corruption involving the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) and its leading brands. Why have we persisted? In part because we believe that manufactured housing could be capable of far more than what has occurred in the 21^st century. It is our sincere belief that the industry could be doing several times its current performance. But we are also realists. It is no surprise when an insider recently told MHProNews that the industry will ‘never recover’ in our lifetime to its former glory days.

 

It is possible that the best days are ahead. But without enough people of good will doing what is right, more of the same is to be expected.

The sort of tips that are provided to MHProNews by a range of professionals are useful, perhaps essential, for investors, business owners, and industry professionals to grasp.

The reason that claim, mentioned above, that the manufactured home industry will ‘never recover’ in our lifetimes rings true is precisely because of the history of manufactured housing in the 21^st century as opposed to how much more robust it was during the 1960s-1990s. While there is certainly a case to be made that some of those periods benefited from boosts in sales that resulted from tainted ‘funny money’ financing, that thinking nevertheless avoids the obvious point. Real people bought those manufactured homes despite how they were financed. Certainly, the financing of site built housing in the run-up to the conventional housing/finance crisis of 2008 war marred by ‘liar loans’ that tripped the U.S. and much of the world into the Great Recession. As one manufactured home professional aptly put it, the manufactured housing forerunner to the 2008 financial crisis was like a “pimple on an elephant’s ass.”

It is difficult to do something that is not first imagined in the mind. Any number of success gurus have said as much. “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve,” said Napoleon Hill. Religious figures have said similarly. “When he [Jesus] had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.” (Matthew 9:28 NIV). Belief combined with action are essential. Belief alone can prove to be little more than a daydream. Thus, the ancient principle of “ora et labora” – prayer and work – is another principle as useful as the one of separating the wheat from the chaff.

Our industry is underperforming. For the next few moments, let’s take time to acknowledge the efforts of those who go nameless in exposing the corruption afoot in manufactured housing because they WANT to be nameless. Our platforms have long honored the notion of anonymous sources and tips. Some sources want to be cited. For example, the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) does not hide its efforts under a bushel basket. They allow and even encourage others to reprint their materials under certain conditions (quoting MHARR: there information is “available for re-publication in full (i.e., without alteration or substantive modification) without further permission and with proper attribution)).  Certainly, other trade groups do similarly.

Which ought to bring thinking people back to the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) to compare and contrast that MHARR permission to reprint. Why is it that MHI began several years ago to carefully restrict their materials from republication? Why does MHI hire/pay attorneys to threaten those who dare publish their materials?

 

MHI recently said in their own words that they want to control the messaging about the DOE energy rule case. So, what did MHI do? They hired an outside firm to handle that for them.

Now, as with all organizations of significant size, there are some that will agree wholeheartedly with leaders. Some will go along with feigned or no genuine enthusiasm. Some may go along publicly, but will from time to time ‘leak’ information for us to publish.

MHI has said in writing in their own words that they wanted to keep MHProNews from publishing their materials (again, ask yourself, why? They paid to have MHProNews publish some of their ‘news’ or ‘events’ previously).  Because MHI took us off their email list, as have some state associations, MHProNews benefits from those who thoughtfully forward MHI and/or other materials from corporate or association sources.

Compare and contrast those positions between MHARR and MHI. MHARR with reasonable assurances that their material is being reproduced in full without changes, gives the okay for it to be republished. MHI does not. MHARR is saying, they want the widest possible audience for their information, so long as it is accurately shared. MHI essentially says, they want to pick and chose who shares their information at all. MHI wants to control as much as they can about their messaging.

A reasonable conclusion that someone may come to is that MHI is not confident enough in the merits of their messaging to allow it to be fact checked or critiqued. Yet that is supposed to be part of the nature of modern media. See the periodically referenced statement from the American Press Institute (API) below.

 

Whistleblowers, Tipsters and Informants Valued

Without state association executives who shared insights with MHProNews, the report “How Gold Rules” would never have been published.

Keep in mind that those who shared those insights:

1. trusted that we would not reveal their identity. They were not disappointed.
2. Those tipsters were, to some extent, taking a chance. State association execs in MHVille today are operating in a different environment than existed 25 or more years ago. Imagine, getting paid to take several trips to nice hotels for free meals, drinks, and photo opportunities – and not have to seriously advance the interests of manufactured housing independents. So long as you carry the water of what Marty Lavin called “the big boys,” you get pretty good pay for doing…what the big boys want you to do.
3. Put differently, while some in MHVille do go along to get along, there are some that are willing to share insights knowing that MHProNews/MHLivingNews will seek to share what they provide with others.
4. Those tips may or may not immediately result in change. Look at Mike McCormick, the former White House stenographer above. It may be that nothing comes from his public whistleblowing. But if there is to be a chance for accountability, there will be a need for such whistleblowers.
5. According to Congressional Representative Jim Jordan (OH-R), there are FBI whistleblowers who have come forward to expose purported corruption at that federal agency. Again, if positive change is to occur, it will take people of good will to step up and do what they can.

That same principle holds in manufactured housing.

It was tipsters who provided an array of insights that have made MHProNews/MHLivingNews the runaway leading news sources in MHVille. Most prefer to stay anonymous. It should be obvious that this platform respects that.

Some people do not even realize that they are providing a tip when they merely share their thoughts, experiences, or observations. Retailers, people in the communities sector, association, legal, management, consumers, investors, owners, public officials (past and present) and others have all been among those who have given information to MHProNews and/or to our sister site, MHLivingNews.

At some point in time, state or federal officials, or perhaps plaintiffs’ attorneys, may find those useful in exploring or prosecuting some case against specific leaders at MHI.

The fact that MHI attempts to dress up their leaders with ‘awards’ and accolades is perhaps akin to a gang rewarding or publicly praising one of their own for towing the gang’s line.

MHProNews has noted before that ‘awards’ by MHI state affiliates or MHI itself have gone to firms that have sometime scandalous behavior.
