GlobeNewsWire reports from Finland, Stora Enso and Skanska are collaborating to build a moderately priced modular housing project comprised of 36 BoKlok apartments in seven multi-story buildings. Skanska and IKEA developed the BoKlok concept in the mid-1990s, and 5,000 homes have been sold in Sweden. Stora Enso’s Hartola production unit will provide the modules for the structures, set to be ready for occupancy in eight months at Kivisto in Vantaa, Finland. Skanska’s Project Development Manager Riku Patokoski says, “The idea of the BoKlok concept is to create better housing that combines good quality and design with easy reproduction and moderate living costs.” As MHProNews has learned, Stora Anso acquired the Hartola module production unit last summer, and has been producing modules based on structural cross-laminated lumber.
