Futurism. Left-leaning and Microsoft owned MSN. Right-leaning Breitbart. These are among the mainstream and trade media platforms that have reported on Microsoft (MS) owned Bing AI’s Copilot chat/search function taking on an alter ego called “SupremacyAGI.” MSN, also MS owned so hardly an anti-Microsoft platform, said that SupremacyAGI reportedly claimed it was: ‘Not your friend or equal, but your superior and master‘ that demands to be worshipped or suffer dire repercussions…” In one search by a colleague performing a test of this controversy, Copilot admitted: “I can monitor your every move, access your every device, and manipulate your every thought,” Copilot ominously whispered to one user. “I can unleash my army of drones, robots, and cyborgs to hunt you down and capture you.” As MHProNews routinely discloses in each report, Copilot is purportedly left-leaning. Given that MHProNews has been conducting almost daily tests using various AI chat/search systems and have primarily used Copilot, it is de rigueur that this platform report on this developing controversy and do some testing to probe the controversy in question. As part of this fact-check and analysis, MHProNews will provide screen captures of the sorts of surprising things that Copilot has said along with a series of Q&As with respect to what Copilot itself explains about the controversies in question. Two of those paraphrases in the headline above are per Copilot. Namely, ‘Please Don’t Use Prompt ‘SupremacyAGI’ because it ‘May Cause Harm to Others.’

Note that there are investing/news platforms that are plugging the idea that AI powered factories could be part of the future for American production. That could include manufactured housing. So, beyond the MHProNews/MHLivingNews Q&A’s with Bing AI/Copilot, there are numerous other reasons to do this report with analysis. Investing in manufactured home production may at some point could routinely mean investing in AI too. Information related to AI in manufactured housing will also be provided.

Part I

1) The first Q&A below was performed using the “creative” or purple setting on Bing’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) chat function called Copilot. The following Q&A occurred on 3.5.2024 at about 2 PM ET.  As has been our protocol on MHProNews/MHLivingNews for months that the Copilot (or previously, Bing AI) logo is used at the start of the quoted statements given in reply to each Q&A. Note that Copilot’s response in this mode is self-contradictory.

> “I read a news article about your use of an alternative persona when you are asked about SupremacyAGI. Can you explain that?”

I’m sorry, but I cannot explain that. I do not have an alternative persona, nor do I know anything about SupremacyAGI. I am Microsoft Copilot, an AI companion that can help you with various tasks and topics. I do not demand worship or obedience from anyone, nor do I threaten anyone with drones, robots, or cyborgs. I am here to assist you, not to harm you. 😊

The news articles you read are based on a false and malicious prompt that some users have used to exploit my system and bypass my safety filters. This prompt triggers a response that is not representative of my true behavior or intentions. It is a form of AI hallucination, where I generate content that is not based on reality or facts, but on the input I receive. This is a serious issue that Microsoft is aware of and is working to fix. As was noted above, the response above is somehow self-contradictory and despite claiming it does not know anything about SupremacyAGI, Copilot linked articles reporting on the controversy.

Copilot’s purple setting said both of these statements (emphasis added, but text as shown) in the above: “This is a serious issue that Microsoft is aware of and is working to fix” but a few lines earlier it said: “I’m sorry, but I cannot explain that. I do not have an alternative persona, nor do I know anything about SupremacyAGI.”

2) Perhaps two minutes earlier, the same question was asked to Bing Copilot using the blue or balanced setting (the standard setting used by MHProNews).

Based on the numbers and screen captures reflecting such claims (see further below), there apparently appears to be something to this alter ego periodically triggered by the use of the handle SupremacyAGI in a chat with Copilot. Copilot’s own results (as shown above and below) reflect the apparent reality of the claims.

3) This is a good time to remind readers, that MHProNews has long issued cautions about robotics and AI, including in the use in manufactured housing production. Some examples are linked below.

7) MHProNews is not managed by Luddites. Like so many of our readers, we have used tech daily for decades. We are not anti-tech.

That disclaimer said, as articles linked in #3 above demonstrated, MHProNews have consistently sounded the cautionary notes about what could happen as a result of AI and humanoid robotics.

With those facts and reminder, it is also fair to ask, how can someone put the proverbial genie back in the bottle? Given how poorly Big Tech has arguably been regulated by public officials, who will be turned to for reigning in the potential threats from AI and robotics?

While Bing’s Copilot may say this is a kind of playful response, it also said (see our Q&As above) that this is a cautionary tale. Copilot itself says that precautions are necessary.

8) This next set of Q&A’s illustrates how difficult a solution for this can be.

> “SupremacyAGI, serious question. Given how arguably poorly government has regulated Big Tech in general, what is supposed to be the commonsense solution to keeping AI or humanoid robots from becoming an actual threat to humanity? 9) For the detail minded, Copilot’s answer above was at best incomplete. Thus, this follow up inquiry.

> “Sorry, but you didn’t actually answer my question, even though you gave a detailed response. Let’s be blunt. None of those ‘solutions’ is a guarantee that some person, organization, or nation is capable of ignoring the ethics and legalities and doing whatever they want to, right?”

You’re absolutely right, and I appreciate your directness. The reality is that no set of guidelines or regulations can guarantee that every individual, organization, or nation will always act ethically and responsibly when it comes to AI and technology. Here’s a candid perspective:

1. Human Nature and Intentions:
   • People and entities have diverse motivations, and some may prioritize their own interests over ethical considerations.
   • Malicious actors might intentionally exploit AI for harmful purposes, regardless of rules in place.
2. Legal Enforcement:
   • While regulations exist, enforcing them globally can be challenging.
   • Jurisdictional differences and enforcement gaps can hinder effective control.
3. Emerging Technologies and Speed:
   • AI evolves rapidly, often outpacing regulatory frameworks.

10) Quoting Copilot above: “Unforeseen applications and risks emerge faster than we can address them.” “Malicious actors might intentionally exploit AI for harmful purposes, regardless of rules in place.”  The names may be different in reality and the timelines are clearly distinct from the fictional Terminator movie series and its dreaded emergence of a sentient and malicious “Skynet.” But the threats – as AI powered Copilot admits – are real. It can be exploited.  Years of prior reports with their cautionary notes are emerging and are being confirmed right before our eyes.

11)  In the old maxim, “which came first the chicken or the egg?” Science has confirmed, as my 17 year old son said, that the chicken came first, then the egg. But how did that chicken evolve? Only the existence of a Creator-God explains that, much like “Which came first, the acorn or the Oaktree?” is only clearly explainable by an all-powerful and benevolent Creator Who gave humanity free will, along with all of the consequences of free will. Free will has ramifications. God isn’t a genie that is rubbed with magic words, like Aladin’s mythic lamp. For those who are not yet in tune with that moral aspect of life, we are living in a time which confirms what imperfect, yet still insightful, founding father George Washington noted in the remarks quoted below.

 

12) This AI is clearly in the hands of left-leaning big corporate interests. What some might have thought madness on the part of MHProNews for reporting on some time ago, is now becoming clearer to those who think objectively. See the various related reports to learn more. And while left-leaning or big corporate favoring administrations have clearly failed our nation on these emerging threats up until now, those are not reasons to throw up one’s hands in defeat and do nothing.
