The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) filed to obtain some 1,000 pages of material relating to HUD’s in-plant expansion regulations initially prompted HUD to respond with a cost over $25,000 paid beforehand to process the request. MHARR challenged HUD to produce details of the cost which resulted in the fee subsequently being lowered to $2,519.61. Noting “HUD’s increasing disrespect for the industry as a non-factor in the nation’s housing policies,” MHARR continues to hammer away at what it says are in-plant regulations that needlessly disrupt manufacturing and increase product cost. As MHProNews has learned, the organization continues to press for a non-career administrator for the manufactured housing program in accordance with the 2000 reform law.
