The economy is what it is and for years polls and surveys reveal that the public is widely unhappy with rising costs for housing, food, fuel, utilities, financing, incomes that don’t keep up and more. Debts, public and personal, are at record levels. About 2/3rds of the country think the nation is on the wrong track. Even homeowners are increasingly stressed by rising insurance, property taxes, maintenance, and other costs. With that backdrop, for the next few moments, imagine being a leader in either of the two major parties or for a mainstream media operation at this crucial yet revealing time in U.S. history. For Democrats and many in left-leaning media, the Biden-Trump debate exposed years of now apparently misleading if not false claims about the mental acuity of Joe Biden. Biden-Harris era policies are under scrutiny as some 3.5 years into their term in the White House because it has not made Blacks, Hispanics, Women, Jews, or several other groups safer or more prosperous. So, what do they have? According to a Democratic email for the Biden Harris campaign to MHProNews from former “Republican” Congressman Adam Kinzinger asserts: “Donald Trump is an existential threat to our country’s values.” Dump on Trump, fear mongering, and his “threat” to Democracy are near the heart of their campaign. What do Trump and Republicans do in response to that picture? The Republican National Convention (RNC) 2024 provided their apparent answers, and they are answers that make some conservatives uncomfortable, but are obviously aimed at winning over those disenchanted with the status Biden-Harris era quo.

A parade of figures from a range of ethnic, age, social, political, professions, and diverse backgrounds was on display during the RNC’s 2024 convention. For those who say what a selfish monster Trump is, real people were presented that countered that image. But more than that, a mood was struck that some described as a party or celebratory atmosphere. Some moments were clearly meant to be fun while still conveying a message. “The Grand New Party” was mentioned as a play on words for the Grand Old Party (GOP), a longtime term used to describe the Republican Party. Of course, this convention occurred in the backdrop of a failed assassination attempt and a problematic debate performance that Biden himself has repeatedly had to admit was poor.  Trump said he is running to be president of all of America, not half of America.  It is common, as the Kinzinger email reflects, for parties to showcase their cross-party appeal. That noted, historically Democratic figures like the Teamster’s Union president, Sean O’Brien, or controversial Amber Rose telling Americans that Democrats have become the party of the wealthy who are getting “corporate welfare” while the working men and women of the country suffer was described by media as “historic.”  A Black pastor from “the hood” in Detroit was electric. In an obvious nod to Evangelical Christians was an address by the Rev. Franklin Graham, son of the late Billy Graham. A Jewish businessman spoke about his years of personal experience with Trump, including at times of loss in that man’s life when Trump had nothing to gain and no video or still cameras to play to. Women and men shared their personal experiences of Trump.

It remains to be seen if this parry to the Democratic messaging thrust of the hate Trump the evil Nazi messaging will sway enough voters to deliver a victory. But the ‘fun’ yet serious aspects of the convention, like Kid Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Dana White, President of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) are just some examples.  These are individuals who have known Trump for years, sometimes decades, often well before he came down the golden escalator in Trump Tower in 2015 to declare his unorthodox run for president that took on and beat the Bush, free trade, and neo-con wings of the Republican Party. The videos below are from left-leaning PBS and Politico. The  left-leaning Politico video is edited, but intelligently so to capture some key moments without compromising the thrust of Hogan’s message. Dana White said he is no one’s puppet. White said he has never been asked or submitted his remarks about Trump for approval by anyone, which may have been a clever slam at those on the left who have worked with the Biden White House to get favored people into the Q&As and with their questions known in advance. 

 There is no doubt that exaggeration and worse has emerged from members of both major parties.  One could debate who is better or worse on that score. But setting that aside, there seems little question that for most of the population is worse off in the last 3.5 years. 

One flash poll indicated that perhaps 1/3 of Democrats believe that the Trump assassination attempt was staged by Trump, a claim that left-leaning PolitiFact has debunked.  As details emerge on the assassin and his attempt, video clips like this via X (a.k.a.: Twitter) make it clear that a fraction of a second was all that separated from a kill shot at Trump’s head and clipping his ear.

For those who may not know, the video below by Kid Rock has over 63 million views on this date. Manufactured homes and 2nd Amendment celebration are peppered into this video on several places that celebrates the working class.

 

 

As several speakers noted, we voters don’t have wonder what Trump will do, because he has a four-year track record to look at. That four years, and this 3.5 years under Biden-Harris, gives no evidence that Trump and MAGA “America First” supporters are planning anything like a dictatorship or tyranny. Yet, it is Democrats who have weaponized the justice system, as the Black who posted the next (not immediately below) post made clear.

The X-post below develops some pretty salty language about halfway in. But this is an example of what surveys reveal is an increasingly common view among Blacks and other minorities. While it is not a majority view, if the polling patterns pre-convention hold, it will be sufficient to cause Democrats to lose the White House, and possibly the Senate and House too.

It is too soon to say that Democrats are in as much disarray as some in media portray. But to circle back to the opening paragraphs, they have a practical problem.  People have lived experiences. While some can and will be convinced that Trump is Hitler, others obviously won’t and don’t buy that lie. The irony is, as voices like WMAL’s pundit Chris Plante likes to say is that Democrats project onto their political enemies what they themselves are guilty of. It is a page out of the Russian playbook, says Plante. Plante, who has had a program on #4 cable news channel Newsmax for about a year now, laces wit with facts. He said CNN’s Van Jones spoke the truth when he said that the Trump campaign has an energy that is akin to that of Obama in 2008.

Plante, former award-winning 17 year CNN journalist and longtime Democrat before becoming a Republican (note: MHProNews is managed by political independents, this is an analysis, not a pitch) pointed out that the music that apparently Trump picked to close out the convention during the balloon drop was from a famous opera used at the end of the 2002 Tom Clancy movie, the Sum of All Fears. As movie fans may recall, in that movie, fascists deep state figures who used a WMD in the U.S. were ‘taken out.’ The good guys won; the bad guys lost. Dark humor? Coincidence? ​

Despite the 2024 Democratic primary, the apparent deception of an impaired Biden becoming more public combined with dissatisfaction over the economy, it is not clear if ballots on Nov 5 (and earlier in early voting states) will offer Biden-Harris or someone else. Several higher profile Democrats have come out for Biden’s replacement. With just weeks to their convention, some are whispering that perhaps as soon as this weekend, Biden may announce a withdrawal, but others are insisting the Biden is in and Democrats are “riding with Biden.” Time will tell.

But what this convention often hit is the theme that Democrats have become the party of the political and corporate elites. Republicans are deliberately claiming the mantle of being the party of the working class, retirees, smaller businesses, and not the party of the ultra-wealthy and their corporate interests. To be objective, while there may be elements of truth to that, there are also some deep pocketed billionaires who have climbed onto the Trump bandwagon. How that will be messaged is going to be interesting. But even prior Democratic presidential hopeful and Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-D) has said what MHProNews has reported for years. It is difficult to deny that Democrats have been in power for 3.5 years, and the economy, housing affordability, and an array of foreign and domestic policies are failures. Lifelong Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said months ago that the Democratic primary process was rigged to favor Biden.  Kennedy also slammed the corporatists that had created, in his words, a corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening a new feudalism.  Will Kennedy and other leftist independents continue to siphon off votes from Democrats, as polling suggests?

Real Clear Politics (RCP) cited the latest polling.

It all comes down to voters. Trump says that everyone has to vote. Of course, Democrats want that too, only in their favor. MHProNews plans to monitor and report as events develop, as housing policy is absolutely tied to who does what in the federal, state, and local governments.

The “rule of law” was a sub-theme at the RNC 2024. If the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000 and its enhanced preemption provision, if the Duty to Serve manufactured housing were properly enforced, it would be game changers for the industry.
