According to left-leaning CNN the vice-presidential debate between U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (OH-R) and Governor Tim Walz (MN-D) was ‘won’ by Vance 51 to 49. Newsbusters.org said that according to their study going into the debate, CBS’ coverage of the Harris-Walz campaign “on the CBS Evening News was 85% positive, vs. 81% negative for the Republicans [i.e. Trump-Vance].” Newsbusters.org conducted that research: “During the two months from July 21 (when President Biden left the race) through September 27, our analysts reviewed all 346 minutes of campaign coverage (161 stories) on the CBS Evening News and its Saturday/Sunday twin, the CBS Weekend News.” Part I of today’s article provides insights from the report of the by The Center Square on the Walz (D)-Vance (R) debate, which noted among other facts the Dallas Federal Reserve research that Vance cited in support of his claim that Kamala Harris’ (D) “open borders” was obviously contributing to higher housing costs for all native-born Americans of all ethnic groups and naturalized U.S. citizens. Longer-term and detail-minded MHProNews readers may recall our prior report that revealed that the one possibly faster solution to the affordable housing crisis than producing millions of new manufactured homes would be mass deportation of illegal immigrants, something that recent polling indicates is modestly favored by voters.

Vance, Walz debate economy, immigration, abortion in tight presidential race

(The Center Square) – U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz exchanged barbs on the debate stage Tuesday night in what may be the final debate before Election Day just five weeks away.
CBS News anchors Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan hosted the 100+ minute debate of the vice presidential nominees, where the candidates grappled over the economy, immigration, abortion and the records of their respective running mates. Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remain in a tight race according to polling nationally and in the swing states.
Throughout the debate, Walz repeatedly attacked Trump for many of his controversial comments and Vance emphasized that if Harris could solve the nation’s many problems, she would have done it already since she is currently in the White House.
The debate began with a question about the Middle East. Iran launched a major missile attack on Israel earlier Tuesday, potentially leading to a full-scale war in the region.
Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism and has been backing proxy groups in the region that have been attacking Israel for months. Israel has been systematically destroying Iran-backed Hezbollah, one such group that has displaced tens of thousands of Israelis by firing on northern Israel.
Israel is also continuing its ongoing war against Hamas, the terrorist group that killed over a thousand Israelis in a brutal Oct. 7 attack on civilians.
“Israel’s ability to defend itself is absolutely fundamental,” Walz said before quickly pivoting to attacking Trump.
Vance answered the same question by introducing himself, pointing to his poor upbringing in the Midwest, his military service and his gratitude to the U.S. for helping someone from his humble beginnings.
Vance then pivoted to attacking the Biden-Harris administration for releasing billions of taxpayer dollars to Iran earlier in their term and pointing out the Oct. 7 attack happened on Harris’ watch.
“Who has been the vice president for the past three and a half years?” Vance asked. “The answer is your running mate, not mine.”
Vance continued by pointing out that Trump is the only president in the last 40 years to not have a major conflict break out during his term.
The candidates then turned to the deadly Hurricane Helene and climate change, where Vance called for building clean American energy and blasting Harris for pushing energy production overseas.
The Biden-Harris administration has hampered U.S. energy development, citing climate concerns while encouraging production overseas, Vance noted.
“If we actually care about clean air and clean water, the best thing to do is to double down on American workers and American energy,” Vance said.
“We have a historic immigration crisis…” Vance said, pointing to 94 executive actions that have “opened the floodgates” for fentanyl and illegal immigrants.
Vance said 25 million illegal immigrants competing for homes in America is one of the biggest drivers of rising housing costs. citing a Federal Reserve Bank study linking immigration to housing affordability.
Immigration consistently appears in polls as a top concern among voters. A CBS poll from last month showed the majority of Americans support mass deportations.
When asked specifically about deportation, Vance said the country should start by deporting criminal migrants and blasted Harris for the hundreds of thousands of child separations from the broken border where families have been separated.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reported last week that more than 660,000 criminal foreign nationals are living in the U.S., including those convicted or charged with violent crimes such as homicide, sexual assault and kidnapping, The Center Square reported.
ICE’s own inspector general issued a management alert In August that the agency can’t account for hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied minors who crossed into the U.S. and whether they are “safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor,” The Center Square reported.
Walz repeated Harris’ point from the previous presidential debate, saying Democrats supported a border bill earlier this year that Republicans would not pass. The measure failed in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Republicans expressed concerns that the bill would not actually close the border and that it expanded the powers of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, whom the U.S. House impeached over the border crisis earlier this year.
At one point in the debate, one moderator contradicted Vance’s point on Haitian migrants before trying to move on to another topic. Vance pushed back, saying they had agreed to no fact-checking in the debate and then explaining the new CBP One app enacted by the Biden-Harris administration that fast tracked Haitian migrants into the U.S. and which Republicans say is illegal.
On the economy, Walz attacked the Trump-era tax cuts, and Vance blasted Harris for 40-year high inflation, which led to prices rising more than 20% since she took the White House.
Walz pushed back, attacking Trump’s “failure on COVID” and saying Trump doesn’t trust economists or climate experts.
“Teachers, nurses, truck drivers or whatever, how is it fair that you are paying your taxes and year when Donald Trump hasn’t in 15 years?” Walz asked.
Walz emphasized he is a “union guy” and agreed about the problems with the loss of U.S. manufacturing jobs.
Vance said many “experts” were wrong for years when they advocated for shipping jobs overseas, saying it has hurt the middle class and that Trump popularized bringing manufacturing back to the U.S.

It made the point, supported by a fact-check by Copilot, that the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) appears to be MIA (missing in action) on the potential harms to manufactured housing industry caused by the strike.
9) It is difficult to understate just how poorly the Harris-Biden (D) years have been for the vast majority of Americans. For those who have been told that some of this problem of criminal illegals entering the U.S. dates back 10 years, well, that is the Obama-Biden (D) administration years. Oops. It is the Trump Administration who built hundreds of miles of new wall on the border with Mexico, that established the remain in Mexico policy, and more safeguards that dramatically reduced the flow of illegals, drugs, and related criminal issues into the U.S. It was Biden-Harris that undid those safeguards, as they said they would do when they campaigned. Harris repeatedly supported Biden policies and voted in Congress to support his agenda. Harris and Biden policies are clearly linked. One analysis of the belatedly posted Harris agenda on her campaign website asserts it is mostly a cut and paste from the Biden campaign agenda.

12) Chris Plante on WMAL’s Chris Plante Show pointed out this morning that CBS News had 6 ‘voters’ in a panel that watched the debate. Two were pro-Trump-Vance, two were pro-Harris-Walz, and two were undecided. The undecideds said they would be voting for Trump and Vance after the debate, per CBS. So, even with the deck stacked against Vance by apparently biased CBS’ moderators and network, Vance apparently did well enough to persuade the undecideds. Jake Tapper with CNN said Vance was clearly the more experienced speaker than Walz. Oops, that’s not so. Walz has far more experience than Vance, who only entered politics about 3 years ago. Per left-leaning Wikipedia, Walz “was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Minnesota’s 1st congressional district in 2006.” “Walz became first active in politics in August 2004, when he volunteered for John Kerry‘s presidential campaign.[44]”

13) There is likely to be a level of illegal voting once again in 2024, but experts cited by Dan Bongino has repeatedly said that it is expected to be 1, 1.5, or no more than 2 percent of the vote. Meaning, if enough real voters vote in 2024, they can make the election “too big to steal” as Trump himself has said several times. That’s a concern for millions of Trump voters who believe that 2020 was ‘stolen.’ That’s why voter integrity has been a major push by an array of right-leaning nonprofits, as well as scores of Republican federal and state officials.

Michael Vanloon didn’t mention either the Patch or MHProNews analysis.
There are several possibilities. Among them, Vanloon didn’t know about those reports, which could be construed to mean that he didn’t do his homework completely. If he did know about our report and the post on the Patch, that logically means he essentially used his talking points against Blue Orca something akin to a straw man. MHProNews didn’t say that Blue Orca made its best possible argument, which we filled out obvious gaps in the above. MHProNews finds Vanloon’s arguments to be unconvincing, and he disclosed at the end that he is “long” on SUI and ELS. Of course. At least Blue Orca said at the start and the end of their report that they were short on Blue Orca, but that didn’t mean that they were factually wrong. In our view, the thrust of Blue Orca’s arguments hold up, and buttressed by our analyses linked above, the critique of Sun et al holds.
