Samson Metals is located at 3145 US-92, Lakeland, FL 33801. What connection, if any, they may or may not have with manufactured housing is not the focus for this report with analysis. This writer for MHProNews has driven past that location of Samson Metals for years with frankly little thought to that generally clean and neat looking business location. On that same stretch of road are multiple manufactured home retailers and communities, including, but not limited to Nobility Homes linked Prestige Home Center, a Clayton Homes retail center, a so-called “mobile home” parts store, and numbers of smaller-to-larger land-lease manufactured home communities (MHCs). While our new post on the Patch today featured the larger-than-life images of Samson Metals iconic photos of former 45th President Donald J. Trump minutes after the attempted assassination attempt on his life in Bulter, PA, the point of this article is not necessarily that retailers, community operators, and other manufactured housing industry businesses should do the same as Samson did. No one has to write letters to their local editor to publicly explain why they are voting for former Democrat Trump and his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance (OH-R), or for that matter a minor party candidate, or for leftist Kamala Harris and her leftist running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (MN-D). The point isn’t to wear a Trump hat, Trump shirt, to send a donation, or any of the kinds of things that some might expect. Certainly, people are free to do, or not do, any of those things and more. The key question and the thrust of this article are simple. Who is the better candidate for the manufactured housing industry and for seekers of affordable housing in general?
The answer to the headline question ought to be rather simple. For over 3½ years, right or wrong, Joe Biden (D) has occupied to White House when he isn’t flying around to some meeting or event or sunning on the beach at one of his multi-million-dollar mansions. For over 3½ years, Kamala Harris (D) has been his apparent vice-president and has cast dozens of tie-breaking votes in support of his agenda. For most of the past 3 years, Marcia Fudge filled the role as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Did HUD implement enhanced preemption under the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000 (a.k.a.: MHIA 2000, MHIA, 2000 Reform Law, 2000 Reform Act, etc.) during that time? No. Yet, Joe Biden voted for the 2000 Reform law legislation as a U.S. Senator. Then Senator Biden (DE-D) also voted for the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA) of 2008 and its “Duty to Serve” (DTS) manufactured housing provision. Biden and Kamala Harris (D) are attorneys. Biden and Harris are supposed to know the law. Plus, as office-holders in state or federal government, she and Joe took an oath to uphold and enforce the laws of the United States and the U.S. Constitution. Per FindLaw: “Both federal and state officers are required to take oaths pledging to uphold the Constitution as part of the duties of the office they hold. In addition, the federal government may require state officers to enforce federal laws within their state.”
The U.S. Senate website says the following about the language used in the oath of office.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
That language is important. The phrase without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion may be overlooked or misunderstood by some. Google’s Gemini explains it this way.

Warren Buffett has said that he won’t endorse a candidate, but his longtime ally Bill Gates has come out in support of Kamala Harris and backed it up with reportedly a $50 million dollars in campaign support. Gates is one of the larger shareholders in Berkshire Hathaway (BRK), parent company to Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage Corp, and Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance (VMF), among other Berkshire owned brands.
As manufactured housing struggles in the 21st century with years of sub-100,000 total U.S. production, there are increasingly pre-fab and conventional competitors emerging.
It is apparent that the Biden-Harris years have, like MHI, paid lip service to manufactured housing without taking the relevant steps to make those nice sounding words supported by production-boosting deeds.
HUD Secretary Ben Carson not only said that he wanted to usher in a new era of cooperation with manufactured housing. He and the Trump administration took concrete steps to make those words translate into more sales. While it is a matter of speculation how much more may have occurred in a second Trump term, MHProNews has spoken to an ex-Trump era official that indicated that more, including possible antitrust action in MHVille, was possible. “Elections have consequences” said that source.
Left-leaning CBS News reported that some 32 million early votes have been cast. There is an opportunity to make history for Trump and MAGA supporting GOP candidates at the local, state, and federal levels to restore the shaken American Dream.
