Trailer Park Boys. Po-Dunk. Mobile Homes. Ready Player One. For years on MHLivingNews and MHProNews there have been periodic featured articles published that included televised videos, music videos, or movies (a.k.a.: flicks) with mobile homes or modern manufactured homes woven into the story line. There has always been a method to what some may have thought of as madness. We aren’t going to give away today the secret sauce that made and kept us the runaway most-read trade media serving the manufactured home industry. Instead, we are building on that rich tradition of diverse but relevant content by focusing today on three movies that don’t have much (or anything) directly to do with manufactured housing but has plenty to do with the ways that our society, culture, politics, and media operate. In an era when the regulatory or administrative state has become a dominating feature of our society, or when cultural influences clearly matter in politics, religion, and yes business too, it would be journalistic malpractice not to pull back the veil for readers and shed light on factors that keep our profession often misunderstood, slurred, and underperforming.
Ready Player One, “Mobile Home Stacks,” and the Manufactured Home Industry Reality Check
“Ready Player One” Movie – Unsubtle Slam on Manufactured Housing?
Before pressing on, MHProNews also should mention in passing that we have produced more reports on celebrities that have owned or otherwise been involved in mobile homes, manufactured homes, or prefab housing. People as diverse as Stevie Nicks, Art Linkletter, Barbara Cochran, Elvis Pressley, Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson, and the Trump family have been among them. We don’t have to agree or disagree with their politics, lifestyle choices, modes of expression, or ways that they did business to feature them. Because they span the political parties and may at times even blur the left-center-right divide.
As an aside relevant to the once and future First Lady Melania Trump, the way that much of the media treated (or ignored) what may arguably be the most physically beautiful first ladies in American history was disgraceful. Let’s hope that this time around, she is treated better.
So, no wonder that university level and legal researchers, investors, affordable housing advocates and others have been and are flocking to our platforms.
With that backdrop, let’s pivot to the balance of the headline topics. In no particular order of importance, let’s pull back the veil on three featured length movies that didn’t focus on mobile or manufactured homes but nevertheless shed light on the political and/or economic processes of our American Republic.
1) Power.
Power (1986) Official Trailer – Richard Gere, Denzel Washington, Julie Christie, Gene Hackman
“My job is to get you in. Once you are there, you do whatever your conscience tells you to do.” – Pete St. John (played by Richard Gere).
According to left-leaning Wikipedia: “Pete St. John (Richard Gere), a ruthless and highly successful media consultant, is juggling a couple of political candidates when he is asked to join the campaign of wealthy but little-known businessman Jerome Cade (J. T. Walsh), who hopes to win the Senate seat being vacated by St. John’s friend Sam Hastings (E.G. Marshall).”
To be clear, as a movie buff, this writer for MHProNews-MHLivingNews and the Patch isn’t saying that these are my personal favorite flicks. They were often popular viewing or even hits. But Power is a fictional look at the nexus between big money, media-political consultants, and getting into elected office. Sex, money, dirty tricks, faked events, and corruption are all part of the story line. When this writer watches a debate with people like Governor Tim Walz (MN-D) in it, or Kamala Harris (D), some lines from Gere’s character Pete St. John come to mind. Someone can take the question, perhaps mention the raised topic in passing, and then go on to say whatever it is that they want to express that might manipulate or sway viewers, listeners and thus voters.
The next time you want to watch a video, consider one of the ones shown in this article. Why? Because each in their own way sheds light on culture, political, media, tech, and business influences on our society. Culture is upstream from politics, the late Andrew Breitbart insightfully said. Make your ‘entertainment’ more ‘infotainment.’ Invest 30 minutes to 2 hours a day in thinking, reading, understanding, praying (yes, praying), and do be superficial about it. Warren Buffett made billions and part of what he said his secret has been is a lot of reading, much of it quite dry.
Notice: for those following our series on the Patch, which includes manufactured homes or affordable housing related reports but aren’t limited to those topics, we plan to do a post on the movie Power soon.
Enemy of the State (1998) Trailer #1 | Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Regina King, Loren Dean, Jake Busey, Barry Pepper, and Gabriel Byrne
According to left-leaning Google’s AI powered Gemini is the following synopsis.
Enemy of the State is a 1998 political action thriller film about a lawyer who stumbles upon a videotape of a congressman’s murder and is framed for the crime:
PlotA corrupt National Security Agency (NSA) official arranges the assassination of a congressman to pass new surveillance legislation. The lawyer, Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith), ends up with the videotape of the murder and is framed for the crime. With the help of ex-intelligence agent Edward “Brill” Lyle (Gene Hackman), Dean tries to prove his innocence.
ThemesThe film is a critique of the surveillance state and the damage it can cause to American citizens. It uses the thriller genre to attack the idea of an America where the government monitors phone calls for trigger words.
Director, writer, and castTony Scott directed the film, which was written by David Marconi and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The cast also includes Jon Voight, Regina King, Loren Dean, Jake Busey, Barry Pepper, and Gabriel Byrne.

3) Secret State
Secret State British Mini-Series trailer | Gabriel Byrne, Charles Dance, Rupert Graves, Gina McKee
Per the YouTube description for the video trailer above: “After a major industrial accident kills dozens of people in the north of England, deputy prime minister Tom Dawkins (Gabriel Byrne, The Usual Suspects) takes on a giant American chemical corporation and eventually his own government to uncover the truth. This contemporary political thriller boasts a superb supporting cast including Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as a reptilian civil servant, Rupert Graves (Sherlock) as a smooth politician, and Gina McKee (The Borgias) as a tough journalist.”
Note that the story is supposedly inspired by the novel, A Very British Coup, a 1982 story by British Labour politician Chris Mullin.
Our Patch article on that topic is linked below.
4) Unrelated to the video topic, but very much related to forces that have been involved in the recent 2024 election and how political power was achieved is a feature on the Patch featuring former Assistant Secretary of State Robert “Bobby” Charles. The third item below is manufactured housing specific.
5) Recent MHProNews features are linked below. Once more, notice the breath of topics. Such a smorgasbord of meaningful subjects is something only found in MHVille trade media on MHProNews/MHLivingNews. And for serious advocacy for manufactured housing, see the second article linked below from the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR).
6) Speaking of manufactured housing, an outreach has been made to a senior leader involved with a major firm and the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI). If there is no response, we may do a feature soon on that topic. If there is a reply, that may be held in confidence, depending on the contents. PS: Sly Stallone’s remarks about President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago is arguably a sign of a possible cultural shift. What was unthinkable 8 years ago is now taking place more openly. Leftist media and tech organizations and leaders went silent just before 11.5.2024 (election day). Is it morning in America again? Time will tell. But no place in the MHVille universe is better equipped to keep you abreast of these issues than MHProNews/MHLivingNews and our groundbreaking series on the Patch. ##

We are very grateful to the thousands of Americans who have expressed interest in helping us at DOGE. We don’t need more part-time idea generators.
