For the millions who still miss Rush, the item below should be memorable. Because MHProNews prepared the tribute in advance, it was apparently one of the first such articles posted online following his death.
Per the PragerU video YouTube page: “Melanie Kirkpatrick, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, gives us the run-down on how a harvest party between Pilgrims and Indians became our oldest national tradition.” It stated that: “The very first Thanksgiving happened almost 400 years ago – long before the nation was born. How did it evolve into America’s quintessential national holiday? Credit largely goes to two people – one, a name you know; the other, you’ve probably never heard – but should.”
The holiday season is upon us. We have much to be grateful for, don’t we?
There is a case to be made that the holidays shouldn’t be political. Right or wrong, that is what it has become for millions.
The late Andrew Breitbart coined the phrase: “Politics is downstream from culture.” Austin Ruse in Crisis said: “But is it true? Sure, it’s true. It makes perfect sense. The country’s political views grow from a cultural soil that has been prepared.” Ruse said: “Catholic entrepreneur Kari Beckman announced a bold vision for a Catholic community outside Tyler, Texas. She said, “Right now, we have a lot of people who want to ‘fix’ politics, and that’s noble. But, unfortunately, that’s way down the river. Before that, [this new community] will help people to embrace right thinking, and from that, right philosophy.” See, politics is downstream from culture.”
So, from Jewish thinkers like Breitbart or Medved, to Catholics or other Christian thinkers that include Salcedo, Ruse, Beckman and the late Limbaugh, Thanksgiving should be seized as an opportunity to inform the value of “the American Way” and this treasured holiday’s role in U.S. history.
Jerry Newcombe, a pastor and author, said on November 23, 2021: “We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessings …” So opens a great hymn of gratitude that is often sung at Thanksgiving, the 400th anniversary of which is this year. The Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621.”
“We have had 400 years of Thanksgiving in America, and thanks to Presidents Washington (who declared the first national day of Thanksgiving) and Lincoln (who made it a yearly event), we even celebrate a day of Thanksgiving as an annual holiday.”
Ruse wrote: “Consider the culture wars that have been going on for 60 years or more. It is vital to understand that they are a war of aggression by the Left against regular Americans and our beliefs and practices. Consider, also, that they came about not from cultural change but through political imposition. The Left did not wait for the culture to change. They went right at politics.”
Thanksgiving is about, duh, giving thanks to God for our many blessings. This writer is ready for this year’s celebration, are you?
