MHProNews has learned from the burlington freepress in Vermont that residents of Windemere Mobile Home Park in Colchester, VT may finally realize a solution for the low water pressure and sewage problems in their community. Owned by the non-profit Housing Foundation, Inc. (HFI)n the 83 homesites have a water supply that constantly need repairs, and the 50 year-old wastewater system has roots growing in the pipes, some of which run under homes, making it especially difficult to access. Water dribbling out of shower heads and from sink faucets require more time for washing that one would hope. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offers a revolving loan fund for wasterwater system fixes, but it has to go through a municipality, in this case the Colchester town government. It would not cost the town anything, but voters still must approve the loan in a June 4 referendum. A $600,000 loan to replace the drinking water system could come directly to HFI. The town has determined through an audit of Windemere’s finances that funding exists to re-pay the loans, although it is not known if site rents would need to increase. HFI owns and operates 17 communities with over 1,000 homesites.
