Following a story we last published July 9, 2013 regarding the possible acquisition of 224 homesite Spruces Mobile Home Park by the town of Williamstown, Massachusetts for possible future affordable housing, now the town selectmen want a vote taken in Dec. to move forward with returning the property to a natural state because it is in a flood plain. The town and owner Morgan Management filed for a federal Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) after Tropical Storm Irene devastated the manufactured home community (MHC) two years ago. While MHC residents are caught in the middle, state law requires they be given two years notice to vacate. Currently the town is facing a March 2016 deadline under terms of the grant, and as iberkshires.com tells MHProNews, the town has to agree to purchase the community before the deadline.
