The first multifamily modular housing apartment units to hit Long Island’s (New York) Nassau County received a grand opening last week. The 29-unit gated community in Hempstead, NY, Village Lofts has one-and two-bedroom units, some at market rates and some moderately priced. Built by Clayton Homes, the apartments feature high-tech windows and GE Energy Star appliances, plus common area exterior courtyard, a media screening room and parking for one car. Hempstead is situated 45 minutes east of Manhattan, according to multifamilyhousing.com. Dan Bythewood, president of developer La Cite Development, says, “The modular housing process has opened our eyes on where the construction industry is going, and all of the positive benefits that exist with this green building method. We have built a superior product at a better price, and surpassed our expectations on energy efficiency and finishes.” As MHProNews knows, Clayton Homes is a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.
