The new developer of Georgetown Estates in Georgetown County, South Carolina has requested his proposal to alter the content of the development to include factory-built homes be put on hold by the county planning commission. The original plan included 214 single-family and patio homes on lots ranging from 6,000 square feet to 14,373 square feet, according to gtowntimes.com. The new owner, Will Moody, wants to increase the number of lots to 319, adding manufactured and modular homes to the mix of single-family dwellings. He says it will fill a void for low-income housing in the county, but as MHProNews has learned, commission members and neighbors have expressed concerns about the potential for falling property values, and how lower income neighbors might affect the neighborhood. Planning Commission Chairman Brian Henry suggested Moody work with county staff and neighbors to resolve some of the issues.
