Two-Story Manufactured Homes Coming to Florida?

Resident-owner Doug LeFevre of the Sandpiper Resort co-op manufactured home community has requested a variance to replace his manufactured home with one that will be 25-feet, higher than the 15-foot limit now governing manufactured housing communities in Bradenton Beach, Florida. The co-op board of directors has approved the request, according to islander.org. Although the majority of the homes in Sandpiper are the required three feet above the crown of the road, LeFevre told special magistrate William Robinson, Jr. he wants the added height for safety reasons in the event of a flood, but his living space would be on one level. City Planner Alan Garrett, noting the city intends to study the ordinance and will likely raise the height limits for manufactured homes, said it will not be higher than the 31-foot limit in other parts of the city. MHProNews.com understands Robinson will issue a ruling within 15 days.
