Landmark Properties wants to redevelop the 56-site Arrowhead Village manufactured housing community (MHC) in Flagstaff, Arizona into a 191-unit student housing complex. As the azdailysun.com reports, a meeting designed to meet the city’s zoning requirements and introduce the project to the public drew 100 people who wanted to know about the company’s relocation plans for the Arrowhead residents. An organization working with Landmark formulated a set of recommendations including the creation of a special relocation fund to cover residents’ moving expenses, and suggested the company use the federal guidelines that covers the expense of replacing the lost home with one comparable. If the resident is renting, the fund would pay for 42 months rent.

The city does not have an ordinance that requires developers to compensate displaced MHC residents, and the state’s relocation fund covers moving costs or the value of the abandoned home. The organization also suggested Landmark identify local housing options as well as a plan to help prevent homelessness of the residents after they are relocated and help them pay off any back taxes on their homes. While the project still has to go before the planning and zoning commission, a spokesman for Landmark informed MHProNews.com a meeting will be held in the future focusing on relocation of Arrowhead residents. ##
