Modular Apartments Rising Quickly in Canada

Following a story MHProNews.com last posted on Jan. 1, 2014 regarding a modular housing apartment building planned in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, placement of the first module occurred March 13, and by Mon., March 17, 75 percent of the 55-unit, four-story Marisa Condos was in place. The modules are trucked up from the factory in Boise, Idaho to this city which is just north of the Bakken oilfield in North Dakota. Site preparation began Nov. 23, 2013, according to estevanmercury.ca, and the project should be move-in ready June 30. Developer Matt Dorling of Pinetree Developments says, “It has a significantly less carbon footprint than the traditional stick built framing of homes or apartments in North America. It uses a lot less energy and is far more efficient than a typical construction site where everything is built on site.” Dorling is looking ahead to future modular developments. ##
