A grant from the state’s Neighborhood Home Program in Gautier, Mississippi will provide up to $75,000 to individuals in the Isle of Pines Mobile Home Park the opportunity to replace their antiquated factory-built homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina with new Mississippi Cottages, according to an article on GulfLive.com.  Samantha Abell, the city’s Planning and Economic Development Department Director, said 41 of the 107-member Isle of Pines housing community applied for the grants, which are intended to help residents improve their own neighborhood, and demonstrate that the government is trying to build a sense of community.  Only owner-occupied homes were eligible for the program. And although it may benefit the property owner,  “It is about the family that lives there,” Abell said.  The alternative is to remove the irreparable homes.  In addition, an area of the Isle of Pines may be set aside for RVs.
