Tierra West Estates manufactured home community in Albuquerque collaborated with the New Mexico Veteran’s Integration Center (VIC) to surprise a one-time homeless wounded Iraqi veteran with a new manufactured home for him and his family. The koat-tv.com reporter says, “ We’re not here to interview you. We’re here to give you a home,” as he hands Jonathan Lewis the house keys. “It’s a big weight off my shoulders, that’s why I’m still kinda stunned–like is this real,?” exclaimed Lewis, who received a Purple Heart for his service. “I don’t know what to say besides thank you. I didn’t join the Army or get blown up expecting to get a house.” Alan Martinez, of the Department of Veterans Services, says “They (vets) are dealing with a lot of things. They’ve seen things no normal human being should have to live through.” MHProNews understands Tierra West Estates and the VIC can offer more homes to service veterans. ##
