The race for Delaware’s House of Representatives District 37 is pitting incumbent Republican Ruth Briggs King against manufactured housing community (MHC) resident and Democratic challenger Paulette Rappa in the Nov. election. King was first elected to the House in 2009, served on several legislative committees and is the Executive Director of the Sussex County Association of Realtors. As MHProNews reported during her race for the seat in 2012, her uncle owns MHCs in Sussex County, leading her to abstain from voting on a “rent justification” bill in the summer of 2012. According to villagesoup.com, she is working to create a task force to revisit the state code governing manufactured homes.

Challenger Rappa, who says, “I live on leased land and have never worked for landowners,” alleges she can be more effective in the House because she would be joining a Democratic-controlled House. “I understand the leased-land issues. I’m tired of my home being called a car. Manufactured homes need to be changed from titles to deeds,” she noted. She is concerned that available resources in Sussex will not match the needs of the aging senior population that will triple by the year 2030. Briggs King defeated Democratic challenger Beth McGinn, also an MHC resident, in the Nov. 2012 election, as MHProNews reported Nov. 4, 2012. ##
