According to HousingWire.com, the Detroit Office of Foreclosure Prevention and Response (DOFPR), in conjunction with law firm Potestivo & Associates, initiated a program last November allowing homeowners who have lost their homes in foreclosure to remain in their homes.  The initial outreach was too late in the foreclosure process to be effective, so the program has been re-focused and will be back on the street this year.  Retaining Occupancy on Foreclosure (ROOF) requires the occupant to pay all utilities, rent is paid on a sliding scale, and the occupant can remain up to three months, with the option to renew for an additional three months, if the house doesn’t sell.  Detroit is glutted with blight and vacant foreclosed homes, which it intends to bulldoze by the thousands in an attempt to help stabilize home prices.
