The residents of Firwood Lane Mobile Home Park in Kirkland received notice they have one year to move from their 32 homesite manufactured home community (MHC) as the result of a change in ownership. The new owners, PSW Real Estate, intend to built 19 new homes valued at $700,000 to $800,000 in this city located just across Lake Washington from Seattle.
MHProNews has learned PSW develops communities of homes utilizing energy efficiency and environmentally sound methods in construction, primarily in high end urban areas, as they have done in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio.
As mynorthwest reports, state law requires MHC residents be notified a year in advance. Relocation assistance may also be provided, although a number of the homes may be too old to be moved. The community is a mix of retirees and families with young children, and many are worried about finding another place to live.
While PSW has not submitted plans to the city for the development, the land is not zoned specifically for MH, which opens the door to the proposal. Kylin Parks with the National Manufactured Home Owners Association (NMHOA) says MH owners who do not own the land need to understand the risks of living in a community. ##
