The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources has awarded Alamance County $24,000 to demolish and recycle 17 abandoned manufactured homes. Eligibility requirements state that the home must be privately owned and vacant, and owners voluntarily agree that the homes need to be demolished, according to thetimesnews.
A pilot program in 2008 removed six homes but required the owners to help pay for the demolition. That condition has since been removed. The NC Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service runs the Abandoned Manufactured Homes Grant Program through the Solid Waste Management Outreach Programs, paying up to $1,500 for each single-section home.
MHProNews has learned the amount of funding each county is eligible to receive is determined by the NC Department of Commerce. ##
