As a ROC USA™ Certified Technical Assistance Provider, the Northcountry Cooperative Foundation provides education, technical assistance, encouragement and services to cooperative organizations. According to publicnewsservce, there are roughly 1,000 manufactured home communities in Minnesota with a population just under 200,000 people, about six percent of the state’s populace.
Warren Kramer, executive director of Northcountry, says his organization has provided training and education to over 150 cooperatives in MN, having helped eight communities purchase their own communities, and one in Clarks Grove ready to convert next month. “Houses in resident-owned communities have been proven to sell faster and for more money precisely because of that kind of security that resident co-ops provide,” he says.
Funding is coming in part from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation. Says Executive Director Carolyn Link, “We are funding this grant because we know that healthy, stable housing and the financial security that comes with it are really essential to good health.” ##
