Harking back to a story MHProNews has been following, and on which we last posted a story Oct. 23, 2015 regarding proposed modular homes for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, five sites have now been identified for the first 150 homes of the 500 total planned.
All five locations are predominantly in disadvantaged areas. The first 22 homes, which will be in place by Christmas, are to be sited in Ballymun. The city council has already sent out notices for bids on this first tranche, according to irishtimes.
The remaining 130 homes are slated to be sited within the next four months. Forty are destined for the Finglas area, 38 in Darndale, 29 homes in Crumlin and Ballyfermot would accommodate 24 homes. All of the sites had already been selected for residential development.
The report that is going to the city councillors says, “The suitability of sites for the location of families and single persons currently in hotel accommodation was considered having regard to the criterion set out in the city council motions for selecting sites for modular housing. The sites should be located adjacent to services including transport, schools, retail neighbourhood centres, medical services, recreational and community amenities.”
Occupants will pay an accommodation charge based on household income to the city council. The modular units will be capable of long-term use, and will be put to other uses once these families find permanent housing. ##
