Updating a story MHProNews posted from Mohave County, Arizona Nov. 16 regarding an ordinance that would restrict manufactured homes (MH) older than seven years from unincorporated areas of the county, the Mohave County supervisors voted to send that section back to planning and zoning, and not enforce it until P&Z returns in Jan. or Feb. with a new plan. The ordinance was scheduled to take effect Dec. 2, 2105.
According to mohavedailynews, the planning and zoning committee drew up the ordinance so the county would not become a dumping ground for abandoned manufactured and mobile homes.
Planning and Zoning Commissioner Krystal Gabrielson opposed the seven-year limit, noting that some older homes are in better shape than newer ones, and that younger and older residents cannot necessarily afford a newer MH.
Several presenters at the Mohave County Supervisors meeting echoed Ms. Gabrielson sentiments. Amanda Kaufman of Kingman added that having an older manufactured home means it would have no value, thereby reducing the amount of taxes that could be collected.
Another resident, noting the ordinance would remove the trade-in value of an older home and prevent the sale of a new MH, stated growth and jobs would suffer at the hands of the restriction.
Another presenter said 23 percent of the single-family homes in the county are manufactured homes. ##
