Following up on a post from March 22, Daily Commercial News says Canadian modular builder Britco has begun talks with private and public officials to provide temporary modular schools, offices and hospitals following the devastation in northern Japan March11.  Vice-president Chris Gardner says people’s needs for food and shelter come first, then the debris has to be removed and the best sites for the buildings identified.  When the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) supplied Save the Children USA with 500 modular homes following the tsunami in Indonesia in 2004, contracts were signed 18 months following the catastrophe.  Those modular units were termite resistant and designed to meet the seismic code.  BCIT trained local workers to assemble the 450 square foot homes.
