Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway’s office tells MHProNews reports the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) has been lax in its oversight of manufactured homes MH), stating the agency did not follow up on problems discovered during inspections of manufactured and modular homes.
The audit, as stltoday reports, found problems with 11 of 12 routine inspections. All ten of the inspections as the result of a consumer complaint revealed shortcomings as well.
The manufactured housing division did not enforce the monthly reporting requirements on the industry, or collect the $30 inspection fee on new manufactured homes delivered to Missouri retailers. As a result, for over two years, the state lost a total of $113,000.
Furthermore, the PSC did not sufficiently record votes in the minutes of its closed door meetings, nor did it provide information to document that the topic discussed in closed meetings was limited to the reason for closing the meetings.
Responding to the audit, the PSC said it had started collecting the fees again in July, that issues identified during inspections are resolved, and that its recorded minutes from closed meetings will cover all the topics discussed. ##
