Airdrie City View of Alberta, Canada, reports a proposed 2,000 homesite, adult manufactured home community nearly ten years in the planning has been voted down by the Rocky View County councilors after almost five hours of debate. Initially approved by the councilors in 2002, the development was to include a nine-hole golf course, pool and clubhouse, hiking trails, a senior center, a small commercial center, and other amenities. Melcor Developments had requested several changes, including using potable water for the golf course in the first growing season. One of the councilors said that given the restricted water supply, commercial development would return more tax revenue to the county than residential. Another councilor approved the idea of providing affordable housing for seniors. The split four-to-four vote registers as a defeat for the developers.
