According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and with backing by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), HUD had chosen 18 lenders from across the country to participate in an energy upgrade program for qualified borrowers. Power Saver low-cost loans can offer up to $25,000 to credit-worthy homeowners to finance replacement doors and windows, water heaters, duct sealing, HVAC systems, solar panels and geothermal systems. The goal is to make energy efficiency more accessible and more affordable. HUD says options are still limited for financing home energy improvements, and this program is expected to reach 30,000 homes and create 3,000 jobs.
