TodaysTHV reports from Little Rock, Arkansas, that students from the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, in partnership with the Downtown Little Rock Community Development Corporation (CDC), spent this year designing and building a 1,000 square foot modular home to be used in an urban renewal project.  A modular home is built to local building codes in a controlled, environmentally protected building center using precise and efficient construction technology. One finished, the home is transported to the home site. This is the second modular home for the Pettaway Neighborhood.  Both homes are Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified.  Students got to experience what it takes to build a home, and residents have noticed a positive change in the neighborhood since both homes have gone up.  Scott Grummer, with Little Rock CDC, said this is a way to attract young people to live downtown.  Twenty thousand dollar grants are available to applicants who want to buy.
