Following up on a post from June 10, Carthage Press, of southwest Missouri, reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved nearly $12 million in assistance following the May 22 tornado that devastated Joplin, MO. Nearly half of that has gone for housing assistance in Jasper and Newton Counties. Included in the figures are funds to help uninsured homeowners repair their homes to make them livable. A total of 9,240 people have signed up with FEMA for assistance. FEMA has responded to 2,100 housing assistance requests so far, and of those, 75 have been for FEMA manufactured homes.
