The Edmonton Sun reports from Alberta, Canada that modular homes are beginning to replace the 374 homes that were destroyed by a wildfire May 15 in Slave Lake, Alberta, displacing over 7,000 people. Mayor Karina Pillay-Kinnee says she anticipates the town that was 30 percent destroyed will eventually have 400 modular homes available, two and three bedroom units as well as some duplexes. Some have already been sited. The Alberta Provincial Government has given $100 million to recovery efforts, and has decreed that residents will not have to pay their property taxes for 2011. Those who have paid will receive a refund. Canadian citizens across the country have donated over $600,000.
