The IndependentMail reports Stephens County (GA) Commissioners has approved the first readings of an amendment to county ordinances dealing with pre-owned manufactured homes being moved into the county. The ordinance is designed to comply with state regulations. Georgia state law passed in 2010 keeps someone from moving a ‘mobile home’ into the county due to age, by establishing safety standards instead. The code requires the home meet the federal HUD Code standards, have an exterior free of loose or rotting boards, have a structurally sound roof, working bath, kitchen, electrical heating, hot water and smoke detection alarms. Stephens County Attorney Brian Ranck said: “If they (the manufactured home) are not being moved at all, they could sit as is, (but) if the person wanted to move it, these rules would come into effect.”
