OttawaCitizen suggests that criminal organizations are coming to the U.S. attracted in part by lower cost housing. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) report indicates that Vietnamese organized crime (VOC) groups have moved from Canada south of the border. According to the RCMP, the twin motivations for these criminal groups are lower U.S. housing prices plus an easing of legal sanctions in some parts of the U.S.. The multi-billion dollar illegal marijuana-growing industry already ships much of its product from Canada to the U.S.. The housing bubble in the U.S. has witnessed home price declines from 33% to as much as 50% in some markets such as Las Vegas. By contrast, during this same period, Canadian home prices have remained stable or rising.
