The withdrawal letter now-published by the Manufactured Housing Communities of Arizona (MHCA) on Industry Voices is sober. It is a low key, ‘here are the facts’ now-open letter about why they’ve quit the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).
But it might as well have been a bomb, as it is sending shock-waves through the industry as to its significance for MHI.
Nor is the MHCA alone.
In a message to the Daily Business News with their president’s letter attached, a source with MHCA told MHProNews that, “Yes, both Arizona and Nevada community owner associations dropped out of MHI [Manufactured Housing Institute]. Attached is a letter written by…[MHCA] president, Neal Haney, regarding the situation from AZ’s point of view and you have permission to publish it. Hope this explains all.”

Permission to publish their letter was also given, and that letter is linked from a direct quote in that letter, above.
Sources within MHI tell the Daily Business News “a number” of companies have also quit – not renewed – their membership. Others that were considering membership – per another source – said that in the light of MHProNews and MHARR reports, have decided not to move ahead with joining MHI.
More on the corporate side of MHI member drop-outs in the days ahead.
Will Other State Associations Follow?
To be clear, fair, and balanced, there are happy – and unhappy – MHI members.
But even if unhappy, most other associations don’t have the freedom to do what the AZ and NV community owner associations did, says an informed source.
Why?
