TimesRecord reports that Maine’s Attorney General William Schneider announced the sentencing of Tammy Barker for misappropriating funds from the sales of 17 ”mobile homes” from Brunswick Naval Air Station in Maine. The factory built homes were entrusted to Barker “on consignment from 2005 through 2006,” according to the Maine AG’s office. The former Tammy Sproul, took the money in connection with her operation of Sproul’s Home Center in Holden.  The “proceeds of the $400,000 (which Barker used for gambling) would have been used to improve the housing for U.S. Navy sailors,” per Schneider’s office release. Barker’s crime extended to four transactions involving individual sellers “who had entrusted Barker with their homes under consignment agreements, and lost their homes and the money due to them from the sale of the homes due to Barker’s conduct.” Barker’s two prior felony theft convictions in 1991 and 1992 factored into Justice Ann Murray sentence of eight years, with four and a half years suspended. Murray ordered Barker to pay $81,126 in restitution to those in the four private seller transactions.
