The North East Community Action Agency (NECAC) in Hannibal, MO has joined the Next Step Network which gives them the opportunity to buy modular homes from Clayton Homes at 10-15 percent below market price. The goal is to provide low cost housing for people of modest means. Carla Potts, NECAC’s deputy director for housing development, says the homes range in price from $115,000 to $151,000 including delivery to the site, and are highly energy efficient. However, no one in the targeted community has been able to qualify for a mortgage to purchase a modular home since the program began earlier this year. As MHProNews has learned from whig.com, while this is an ongoing project with no timeline, there is a shortage of available lots conducive to a modular home, and some subdivisions have restrictions that do not allow modular homes.
