Considered the toughest in the nation, Alabama’s immigration law requires state regulatory boards to check the residency status of everyone who is licensed to do business in AL. NECN reports the Alabama Manufactured Housing Commission (AMHC) is one of several that has not been compliant in enforcing the law. Jim Sloan, Executive Director of AMHC, said the agency was advised by counsel to wait because of legal challenges to the law, and also the AL legislature was considering amending the law, which it passed in May. MHProNews has learned since you have to be legal to obtain a driver’s license, the commission is now asking its 900 manufacturers, retailers and installers for copies of their driver’s licenses as it strives to enforce the law. The legal challenges are expected to be hear soon at the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
