American Homestar Corporation selected for Ike home rebuilding efforts in Galveston County

League City, Texas – May 14, 2010 – American Homestar Corporation headquartered in League City, Texas has been selected as one of five builders to rebuild homes destroyed by hurricane Ike under the Galveston County Disaster Housing Assistance Program. This $85 million federally funded program is round one with additional funds already set aside for round two.

American Homestar will build the modular homes for the project in its Oak Creek Homes plant in Fort Worth, Texas. Once completed, the homes will be transported to home sites in Galveston County for installation by local contractors.

According to a Galveston Daily News article county officials indicate more than 1,200 Galveston County homeowners have applied for assistance. An estimated 70% of those who applied will be deemed eligible with approximately half receiving new homes while the rest will have repairs done by one of 11 repair contractors the county hired two weeks ago.

American Homestar Corporation’s headquarters in South Shore Harbor in League City employs approximately forty five of the companies 620 total employees.
